NEW YORK CITY – New York City’s newest casino is headed to the Bronx, but anyone hoping to roll dice at the Bally’s Bronx Casino should plan on a long wait. The project is not expected to open its doors until around 2030.
A License Years in the Making
The Bally’s Bronx project sits on the site of the former Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, along the water near the Whitestone Bridge in Throggs Neck. It was one of three downstate licenses the New York State Gaming Commission awarded on the same December day, alongside Resorts World New York City in South Ozone Park and the Steve Cohen and Hard Rock Metropolitan Park development next to Citi Field.
The award capped a process that ran for years and drew bids from across the gambling industry. Bally’s plans to pay a $500 million license fee that will benefit the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and it has pledged a community benefit package the company valued at $765 million.
Inside the Bally’s Bronx Casino Floor
Bally’s has described a multibillion-dollar resort that pairs a large gaming floor with a hotel and an entertainment venue. Plans call for 3,500 slot machines, 210 table games and 40 poker tables, along with a 500-room hotel and an event hall that can seat up to 2,000 people.
The table game count is what matters most for dice players. A floor of that size leaves ample room for legal craps alongside blackjack, roulette and baccarat, putting live craps within reach of Bronx residents at a full commercial casino for the first time.
Why 2030 Is the Number to Watch
Unlike Resorts World, which converted an existing slot parlor at Aqueduct Racetrack into a full casino and began dealing table games in 2026, Bally’s is building from the ground up. State projections and the developer both point to a mid-2030 opening. Soo Kim, the chairman of Bally’s Corporation, has said he intends to start construction quickly and believes the company can beat that timeline.
