Standard Craps Bets Explained:

If you are not already familiar, it is important also to learn how to play craps and what goes into all of the different bet types. Most players at legal craps casinos are familiar with betting the pass line, especially fans of land-based casinos. We break down below all of the standard craps bet types and all of the various ways to win.

Pass Line

As one of the most common bets in craps, there are many ways to win but only a few ways to lose when playing the pass line. On the first roll, players will win the bet if a seven or an 11 is the outcome and lose automatically on any craps (2, 3, 12). If any other number is rolled (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10) that becomes the point number. From here, a player will win if that point number is rolled before a seven. If a seven is rolled the player loses the bet and the board is reset.

Don’t Pass Line

Betting on the don’t pass line is the opposite of betting on the pass line. Players are hoping for a 2, 3, or 12 on the initial roll. If the point number is set because a 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 was rolled, the player wins on a seven being rolled before that point number. This is not the most popular wager at land-based casinos, as no one wants to root for the house/dealer to win.

Come Bets

A come bet in craps can be placed after a point number is established. Place a wager on the come bet and roll the dice. If a seven is rolled, you win. Any craps being rolled (2, 3, or 11) will result in you losing the bet. If 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 is rolled, the bet will go under that number. To win, you must roll that number again before rolling a seven.

Don’t Come Bets

This bet is the opposite of the come bet. Players will win by rolling craps when placing a bet on the don’t come line. On a 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 being established, players will win on a seven being rolled before the set number.

Proposition Bets

Proposition bets are basically the player betting on any desired number to be rolled before a seven. For example, a player could bet money on the 10 spot and roll until they hit that number but lose on a seven. This is essentially the same thing as playing the pass line and rolling for the point number.

Field Bets

Playing the field is betting on any of the field numbers to hit (2, 3, 4, 9, 11, 12). Rolling any other numbers (5, 6, 7, 8, 10) will result in a loss. Rolling 2 doubles your payout and rolling 12 triples it. Players can bet on the field to designate a point number.

Place To Win

Bet on any 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 to be rolled before a seven after the point number is established

Place To Lose

Bet on a seven to be rolled before a 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10 after the point is set.

Big 6/8

Bet on either a 6 or an 8 to be rolled before a seven. This bet can be placed/taken off the board at any point in time.

Any 7

This is a one-roll bet where you are wagering on any combination of seen to be rolled. Any other number is counted as a loss.

Any Craps

This is another one-roll bet and this one is won when any form of craps is rolled (2, 3, or 7). Any other roll is a loss.
