- Kentucky has approved HHR machines that play as electronic craps, marking an important development for gambling in the state.
- There are currently no casinos in Kentucky, as the state does not allow gambling outside of horse racing.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – As the world of electronic gaming continues to expand, so does electronic craps, as Kentucky has made strides towards continuing the advancement of both.
The Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation (KHRGC) has approved changes to Historical Horse Racing (HHR) machines, which would allow them to look and operate as other games, such as craps, blackjack, and roulette.
Why Did They Make This Decision?
The push for this change was led by Interblock Luxury Gaming Products and Exacta Systems, who work under Churchill Downs, Inc.
They made an official request for such changes to be approved and received ample support, with a near unanimous decision to authorize new terminals.
Multiple board members spoke in favor of the changes, citing the need for Kentucky to “stay competitive” in an expanding gaming industry and avoiding complacency.
What Does This Mean For Legal Craps In Kentucky?
There are currently no official casinos in Kentucky, as the state does not allow for gaming outside of horse racing. These legal craps games will be available to players at “gambling halls,” such as Derby City Gaming, Oak Grove Racing & Gaming, and Kentucky Downs.
This is a big development for the state; although the electronic table games that will be offered are going to be variations of HHR, it shows the state's willingness to make advancements in the gaming industry, even if it is incremental steps.
However, residents who are 18 years of age or older can currently play legal craps in Kentucky online at sites such as Bovada, Slots.lv, and Ignition Casino.
